Chasing the dream

For as long as I can remember I have been obsessed with fishing. Consuming all of my thoughts and taking up the majority of my time growing up. I had always wondered what I wanted to do when I finished school, in the back of my mind I always wanted it to be to do with fishing. I worked at the local tackle shop Cobram Outdoors for 6 years and learnt a lot about the industry and what people were looking for in the fishing world. I soon found there was niche I may be able to fill.

Along the Murray river from Tocumwal to Yarrawonga has some of the best camp spots and arguable the best looking Murray cod water around. Yarrawonga, a busy tourist town with great shopping and Lake Mulwala on the doorstep for all manor of water sports and recreation it attracts its fair share of tourists from all over Australia. I found that in the shop and talking to other tackle shop owners around how often they get asked about fishing guides or charters that could take them for a trip in the local area, this got me thinking.

I have always loved taking people fishing, whether it just be friends or family I always enjoy seeing them catch a fish and I feel greatly satisfied I have helped them achieve something. Patience has always been a strong point of mine and no matter how bad they cast, how many tangles or times they get snagged I am able to be patient and keep going with the fishing. My family always thought I would end up being a teacher one day as I love helping others and sharing information, however I never thought the classroom was for me.

When the opportunity finally came up to start a charter business I jumped on it with no hesitation, knowing all to well the passion and drive I had to make it work. The last few years I had been aiming to get into guiding, really learning out the lake and focusing on learning how to help others get onto fish more than just myself going for a fish. I can’t wait to be able to share my knowledge and help satisfy people whether it be catching their first fish, chasing that trophy meter plus fish or even just a leisurely cruise around Lake Mulwala taking in the sights and sounds of this fantastic waterway.
